FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATE

Protocol for EUS Fine Needle Aspirate – Scientist

The ideal aspirate produces a smear that is reasonably thin and evenly spread, making maximum use of a small amount of material. The role of the scientist attending the procedure is to set the kit up for the physician, prepare slides and give an assessment of adequacy by performing a DiffQuick stain and evaluate the slide microscopically. Ensure slides and specimen is adequately fixed and directed to the relevant departments as well as completing relevant identification and documentation of request forms and slides. It is important to get as much clinical information as possible from the clinician in order to assist in making the correct diagnosis.
