Symptomatic Patients - Currently Unwell 

 

Patients displaying symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath) and patients with COVID-19 specifically requested on their referral should attend one of the following COVID testing sites:

Thornlie

Asymptomatic Patients - Currently Well

 

Testing of asymptomatic patients is permitted in a number of settings with approval for these scenarios found here. Asymptomatic testing should not be undertaken for return to work purposes or fit for work purposes unless approved by public health.

Clinical Labs are also conducting pre-operative COVID-19 screening for patients undergoing specific aerodigestive procedures as per directions from the Chief Health Officer.

Pre-operative patients should not attend a COVID testing site, but should attend one of the following collection centres prior to 11.30am, two working days before surgery.

No appointment is required for this test.
Patients should arrive to the collection centre with their Medicare card and a pathology request form indicating date of surgery, type of surgery, and location (hospital) of surgery. Serology Testing - Possible Past Infection

 

Serology is for the diagnosis of past COVID-19 infection, not diagnosis of acute illness. Serology should not be requested if the person has acute symptoms of COVID-19.

Requests for serology testing must include Clinical Notes addressing the following criteria:

  • The date of onset of symptoms (which must be at least 2 weeks prior to testing)

And at least one of the following:

  • Identified as a close contact of a confirmed case
  • Identified as related to an outbreak setting
  • Travel (international and interstate) since 1/1/20
  • Travel on a cruise ship since 1/1/20

No appointment is required for this test.

Transport, Freight and Logistics Workers

As per the Transport, Freight and Logistics Direction, any persons responsible for the provision of transport or freight and logistics services into or out of WA are required to:

1. Present for testing for COVID-19 within 48 hours of arriving in WA unless they:

  • Produce evidence of being tested for COVID-19 in the five days before entry; or
  • Leave WA within 48 hours of arrival; or
  • Are directed by WA Police to hotel quarantine or to attend a hospital; or
  • Are required to quarantine or isolate under the Isolation (Diagnosed) Directions or the   Quarantine and Isolation (Undiagnosed) Directions.

2. For a period of 14 days after the date they entered WA, present for COVID-19 testing every 7 days (calculated from the date of last COVID-19 test) unless they:

  • Leave WA before the seventh day from the day of the most recent COVID-19 test; or
  • Are directed by WA Police to hotel quarantine or to attend a hospital; or
  • Are required to quarantine or isolate under the Isolation (Diagnosed) Directions or the Quarantine and Isolation (Undiagnosed) Directions.

Testing for freight and transport workers can occur at any of our Clinical Labs collection centres. These locations and opening hours can be found at clinicallabs.com.au/location/

  • A pathology referral form is NOT required.
  • No appointment is necessary.
  • Patients are required to present a valid Medicare card at time of swab.
  • Results will be provided directly to the patient via SMS.

To confirm eligibility for this test, please provide your workers with a letter confirming they “are a paragraph 27G exempt traveller under the transport freight and logistics directions for the Emergency Management Act 2005 (WA)”.

Freight and transport workers who undergo asymptomatic testing under the Transport, Freight and Logistics Direction are not required to isolate or stay home until a negative result is returned.
Physical distancing, hand hygiene, cough etiquette and other conditions must still be adhered to.
