Dr Natalie Dixon completed her Anatomical Pathology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, before moving to Cairns Base Hospital as a Consultant Pathologist with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology in 2013. Her initial focus was to develop a high level of diagnostic independence and foster strong ties with referring specialists and general practitioners. As Pathologist-in-Charge from 2016 to 2021 in Cairns, she was committed to building a reputation for providing tertiary-level pathology services with a personalised approach within the skin and gastrointestinal pathology domains. Her flourishing interest in dermatopathology and a desire to improve education and professional development opportunities in this sub-speciality led her to spearheading ongoing clinicopathologic correlation and post-graduate education at all levels, as well as senior lecturer responsibilities with James Cook University Medical School. Her commitment in this field culminated in her being awarded the International Board Certificate in Dermatopathology (2019) by the International Committee for Dermatopathology (ICDP). In 2021, she relocated to Canberra to join Capital Pathology and relished her role as a senior mentor, elevating diagnostic standards, particularly in regards to dermatopathology and gastrointestinal pathology. She also expanded her expertise in breast pathology and gynaecological pathology. She continued to cultivate her passion for sharing knowledge and expertise by delivering undergraduate pathology lectures for the Australian National University Medical School, including playing an integral role in relaunching an ACT-wide pathology registrar training program within the Canberra public health system. Dr Dixon maintains a strong interest in workplace culture and believes in a transparent, honest, safe, and non-hierarchical leadership approach. She has a broader skillset prior to medicine, with a background in economics, working in State Government. She has attended several clinical leadership courses to become a more effective communicator and inspiring leader.
