Bring in 2018 with a healthier workplace

Bring in 2018 with a healthier workplace

Healthy workers = healthy organisations = healthy business performance

There is a wealth of emerging evidence highlighting the success of health and wellbeing programs, and the return on investment received by businesses. In a meta-evaluation, the average economic return of worksite health promotion programs reported a 25.3% decrease in sick leave absenteeism, 40.7% decrease in workers compensation costs, 24.2% decrease in disability management costs, and a saving of $5.81 for every $1 invested in employee health and wellbeing (Comcare 2014).

As an employer, it is your duty of care to provide a healthy working environment, with minimal risk to the health and safety, for your employees. Part of this responsibility includes the provision of information, training and supervision to protect all persons. Further to this responsibility of care, there are many additional benefits associated with promoting workplace health, such as increasing workplace efficiency and productivity.

The Australian Government’s initiative of Comcare, a program that aims to minimise the impact of harm in workplaces, reports that employers who run health and wellbeing programs benefit from:

  • Improved work performance and productivity.
  • Reduced costs associated with absenteeism, disability and worker’s compensation.
  • Improved culture of the organisation and staff retention.
  • Improved overall organisational image, attracting talented employees and fulfilling corporate social responsibility obligations.

Common medical problems and/or risk factors that could impact your workplace include, but are not limited to; Heart and Arterial Disease, Diabetes, Liver Damage, Hepatitis, Blood Disorders and Iron Deficiency. A standard Health Screening Program can be used to identify any abnormalities in your employee’s health through a simple blood test. Here at Clinical Labs, we have 3 levels which can be chosen to suit your employee’s needs. These can be done to determine and monitor risks in your workplace. For the convenience of your employees and in the hope to minimise disruptions to the workplace, we offer on-site testing where an accredited staff member can come to you; or you can have access to our extensive network of accredited collection centres across Australia.

In 2017, we performed over 2,500 employee health screens, helping over 100 companies to protect the health and safety of their employees.
