Dr Tawfik graduated from the University of Al-Mustanseriyah in Baghdad, Iraq in 1994 and trained as a general surgeon before emigrating to Australia. He was certified by the Australian Medical Council in 2005 and trained in anatomical pathology at the Royal Women’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and Dorevitch Pathology, Frankston. Prior to joining the anatomical pathology training program, Dr Tawfik worked at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peninsula Health in surgical and emergency medicine rotations including one year in the emergency department of Frankston Hospital. He received a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in February 2013 and shortly after commenced working at St John of God Pathology. Dr Tawfik has wide experience in most areas of anatomical pathology and his special interests include gastrointestinal pathology, lymphoma pathology and cytology.
