Dr Rebecca Howman is a Consultant Haematologist at Clinical Laboratories Australia and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. Dr Howman is qualified as a physician and specialist in Clinical Haematology. She graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1998. She undertook Physician training at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and the Royal Australasian College of Pathologists in 2009. She completed her Advanced training as a Specialist Haematologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. She is a member of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion. Dr Howman completed a Masters in Clinical Research in 2010. Since then she has continued an active role in research with collaborators at the University of Western Australia. At Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Dr Howman has an ongoing role as principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous clinical trials of novel cancer treatments. Her particular interests include the pathobiology of myeloproliferative neoplasms and myelodysplasia. She is the chair of the Blood Transfusion Committee and was the clinical lead for the introduction of Patient Blood Management at the hospital, which lead to a 20 per cent reduction in the use of red cells hospital-wide.
